A Brewsing New District
The Tchoupitoulas street corridor has been a host to New Orleans' blossoming craft beer business and now with the opening of Miel Brewery and Taproom, we have a new hipper establishment with some great tasting brews. Miel is a stone's throw from the Tchoup Yard bar and Urban South Brewery and down the street from Port Orleans and Nola Brewing, so making a fun afternoon of brewery hopping is easy.
Miel rests in a reconditioned warehouse. Glass roll up garage doors invite the outdoors in and a nice sized patio provides comfortable seating and a gaming area including corn hole and ping pong. The decor is modern industrial and a slick concrete top bar has generous seating allowing you to taste beers and enjoy the passing crowd. Miel produces beer only for the taproom and for growler takeaways at this time with no immediate plans to bottle or can product. There were three selections to choose from on our visit and our favorite, called Nox, happened to have honey as one of the active ingredients. The brewmaster creates small batches of beer so the choices change every two to three weeks which makes frequent visits a must. We happened to pass by on ice cream day and beer floats were being created at the back of the taproom and no - no children were harmed during the creation of beer floats! Our favorite discovery of Miel was when the brewmaster rolled out the Nintendo game on the oversized screen and got his nerd on with his friends playing Super Mario Kart. Special note that there is no cash accepted here. Credit and Debit cards only.
