Cans Galore at Urban South Brewing
Hogs for the Cause, the big BBQ fundraiser taking place this weekend, got us out of our comfort zone with our regular local Brew Pub Second Line and pushed us uptown in the Lower Garden District to Urban South Brewery and Beer Garden. We always pass this brewery as we travel down Tchoupitoulas Street but have never entered the doors.
Urban South is located in a large warehouse near the river and their production has consumed the majority of the space. The owners figured out that guests need some entertainment with their beer, so they have created several gaming areas which include video machines, corn hole, and even pool tables. Colorful picnic tables line the floor creating the main seating area or you can sit comfortably at the bar, watch the pours, and chat with the bartenders. Urban South has quite a selection of beers on tap and even more in cans. The cans by far are the most creative packaging for any brewery in the New Orleans area.
The weather was perfect this week so hanging out was easy because we have heard that in the summer, the warehouse gets a little warm despite the giant fans in the rafters. Of course like most of the breweries without their own kitchen, a food truck lines up on Tchoupitoulas Street for easy access to get some munchies. Urban South also has a unique collection of self created artwork which makes it fun to wander about as you sip your suds.
