It's a Bewitching Wrap for Mardi Gras 2018
Fat Tuesday is the official day for Mardi Gras and Mother Nature was kind to New Orleans this year by providing bright sunshine and unseasonably warm weather. It is always a street day for us as we start at in a section of town called the Marigny and end up at our favorite place to dine on the big day at Tujague's.
The R bar on Royal street serves as the morning walking parades meeting base camp, and revelers begin filling the streets well before 9AM until it is time to march into the quarter two hours later. You can see all sorts of costumes in varying degrees of coverage depending on how brave you are in front of crowds. Our favorite costume this year was a friend dressed as Endora from Bewitched. For those of you in your twenties, Bewitched was the witch based television show starring Elizabeth Montgomery with the overpowering mother in law Endora played by Agnes Morehead..
We continued to party at house parties with friends which is the best part of Mardi Gras simply because you have a location where you can use the bathrooms which besides cocktails, is by far the most important aspect of the day.
Before our annual luncheon at Tujague's, we quarter hopped to Good Friend's Bar, where the Bourbon Street Award Costume Contest takes place and then off to the Black Penny which is a wonderful gem on Rampart Street serving one of the largest selections of canned beers.
Tujague's closed out the day as we sat for what turned out to be quite a wonderful meal complete with our favorite fried, garlic, "Bom Femme" chicken along with 4 other courses. Of course we had to balance everything out with Rombauer Merlot and and fun bubbly from Mumm to toast to another successful close to the Mardi Gras season.
